I donated my cord blood, it takes only a few minutes and its nice to know that it will eventually help someone instead of going to the garbage. If you have the money to bank it go for it.

Thanks KP - While it's water under the bridge now of course, in case they weren't available at the time (or had gone unnoticed), I believe Cryobanks International and LifebankUSA are still collecting public donations via mail (well - courier probably) for anyone reading that might not have local access to a participating hospital. Hopefully there will be more federal funding for this sort of thing in the near future.

Some of the umbilical cord banks that accepted donations in the past stopped due to the costs involved of storing the blood. It is an economic issue of the blood banks not having the money needed.

I was wondering if there were any particular reasons you may be aware of as to why you were unable to get a donation accepted when your son was born? Were there any high risks associated with this particular birth, was there adequate time to prepare for the donation?

Sorry to nitpick, I just thought any additional information you might have may help others wishing to donate get through the process.
